Ukrainian forces stop Russian counter-offensive in Kursk region - representative of AFU Commandant's Office

A representative of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Commandant's Office, Oleksiy Dmytrashkivsky, said in a commentary to AFP, Barron's reports.
According to the representative of the commandant's office, Russian troops tried to attack Ukrainian positions from the flanks. However, the Defence Forces of Ukraine were able to stop the Russian counter-offensive.
‘The Russians entered one of the settlements. They started fighting for another settlement, but that was it,’ Ukraine's Armed Forces spokesman said in a statement.
Many Russian civilians remain in the part of Kursk region controlled by Ukraine. There are about 100 to 500 residents in a number of settlements. At the same time, pharmacies and shops do not work there. Food is brought from the neighbouring Ukraine's Sumy region.
As a result of Russian strikes on the occupied territories of the Kursk region, 23 civilians were killed.
- On September 1, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that residents of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation complained to the Ukrainian military that Russia was not providing civilians with an evacuation corridor.
- Ukraine's Foreign Ministry asked the UN and the Red Cross to join the humanitarian response in Kursk region. The UN stated it needed Russia's permission to do so.
