American Embassy urges its citizens to leave Russia immediately
The US Embassy has urged its citizens not to travel to Russia and to leave it immediately because of the unpredictable consequences of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops
This is stated in the statement of the US diplomatic mission.
"Do not travel to Russia due to the unpredictable consequences of the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces, the potential for harassment and the singling out of US citizens for detention by Russian government security officials, the arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of Russia, the Embassy’s limited ability to assist US.citizens in Russia, and the possibility of terrorism," the statement said.
The statement also noted that US citizens living or traveling in Russia should leave immediately.
"Exercise increased caution due to the risk of wrongful detentions," the embassy advises.
The US government's ability to provide routine or emergency services to US citizens in Russia is severely limited, especially in areas remote from the US Embassy in Moscow.
The embassy emphasizes that after the mobilization is announced in September, Russia may refuse to recognize dual US citizenship, deny citizens access to consular assistance, draft them, and prevent them from leaving the country.
The body also says that US citizens should keep in mind that US credit and debit cards do not work in Russia, and that electronic transfers from the US are extremely limited due to sanctions imposed on Russian banks.
The US Embassy recommends avoiding any political or social protests and not taking pictures of Russian security officials.
