Support for Ukraine no longer depends on US presidential election - political scientist Piontkovsky
Political scientist Andrey Piontkovsky believes that due to the fact that the Congress has formed bipartisan support for Ukraine, the outcome of the US presidential election will not affect the assistance to Kyiv
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"There has been a conceptual revolution in the United States, which was carried out by the Reagan wing of the Republican Party. Its three prominent leaders, the chairmen of the Defense, Foreign Affairs and Intelligence Committees, Michael McCaul, Mike Rogers and Mike Turner, first, overcame the Trumpist resistance to the law on assistance to Ukraine. Moreover, they criticize the Biden administration for not supporting Ukraine enough. This is a serious blow to Putin's agents in Washington," Piontkovsky said.
The political analyst believes that the outcome of the US presidential election will not affect support for Ukraine.
"Support for Ukraine now does not depend on the presidential election at all. Because of this revolution, a bipartisan pro-Ukrainian majority has been formed in both houses of Congress. According to the results of the latest voting, we see that in the Senate it is 80 against 20 senators (50 Democrats and 30 Republicans), and in the House of Representatives - 370 against 60. And this majority will not change," he added.
Biden and Trump debate
US presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump held their first debate on June 27. In particular, they talked about Ukraine.
According to a CNN poll, after the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, 5% of observers changed their minds about who to vote for: Trump was named the winner of the debate by 67% of viewers, and Biden by 33%.
Subsequently, Biden's campaign denied rumors that he was withdrawing from this year's presidential election after failing to win the debate with Trump.
Biden commented on his performance at the presidential debate with Donald Trump for the first time, partially admitting that it was bad. At the same time, he assured that he would be able to do the job of the head of the White House.
