Cameron travels to Washington to urge congressmen to approve aid package for Ukraine
On Tuesday, April 9, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron will visit Washington and meet with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to urge lawmakers in Congress to pass an aid package for Ukraine
Reuters reports.
The publication reports that last week, Cameron announced plans to meet with Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson to urge him to initiate a vote on the allocation of the necessary package of funds for Ukraine.
"Success for Ukraine and failure for Putin are vital for American and European security," Cameron emphasized.
According to him, it is important for Russian leaders to demonstrate that their aggression does not pay.
"The alternative would only encourage Putin in further attempts to re-draw European borders by force, and would be heard clearly in Beijing, Tehran and North Korea," the British Foreign Secretary added.
The British Foreign Office said that Cameron would meet with both Republican and Democratic congressional leaders, and before meeting with Blinken, he would meet with former US President Donald Trump in Florida. A spokesman for the British Foreign Office described this as "standard practice" for interacting with an opposition candidate.
It is also reported that during his visit to the United States, the British Foreign Secretary will emphasize the importance of increasing economic pressure on Russia and providing Ukraine with "the military and humanitarian support it needs to hold the line this year and go on the offensive in 2025."
