Director of the Center for Military Legal Research Oleksandr Musiyenko said that the actions committed by the Russian troops have signs not only of war crimes, but also fully fall under the Convention on the Crime of Genocide

He spoke about this on the air of Espreso.TV

"We have signs of a crime under the Genocide Convention. This crime is even higher in gradation than a war crime against humanity, because all those actions that are committed by Russian troops, in my subjective opinion, have signs of genocide. Namely, the civilian population is purposefully destroyed, as well as normal conditions for the life and development of this population are being destroyed, which is also a defining feature of this terrible crime", Musiyenko emphasized.

He also added that there are several areas of investigation of this crime on the territory of our state.

Firstly, the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are working and documenting all the facts, including them into the register of pre-trial investigations. Secondly, these crimes are dealt with by the International Criminal Court, an institution established to prosecute the crime of aggression, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Also, the UN Human Rights Council, conducting the investigation, collects all the evidence, forms its position, and then this legal position can be used in the International Criminal Court. And there is another direction - it is bringing Russia to responsibility as a State. This case is being considered at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where there is an interim decision for Russia to withdraw its troops and stop the aggressive war against Ukraine", Musiyenko noted.
