21 Ukrainian sappers killed and 77 injured during full-scale war - Ukraine's Interior Ministry
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 21 State Emergency Service sappers have been killed and 77 others injured while defusing explosive devices
This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
"Unfortunately, mines and other explosive devices also take the lives of sappers. During the full-scale invasion, 21 sappers of the State Emergency Service were killed and 77 others were injured," he wrote.
Klymenko also noted that Ukrainian sappers have defused about 450,000 explosive devices and 3,000 aerial bombs since the beginning of Russia's full-scale aggression.
In addition, 17 mechanized demining vehicles provided by international partners are helping the SES sappers.
"This equipment significantly speeds up the demining process and has already cleared 456 hectares, but most importantly, it protects the deminers and saves their lives. Only last month, we managed to avoid possible tragedies: the equipment was damaged, but people were not hurt. In particular, in the Kharkiv region, two mechanized demining vehicles hit mines while clearing power lines in the Izyum district," Klymenko added.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Spring Centre spoke about a new development that protects the legs of sappers. The center's director, Ihor Yefymenko, told Espreso TV that the production of mine-resistant boots had been launched in Kharkiv.
