Trump’s presidency will be a 'test of resilience' for more than just Ukraine

Political scientist Oleh Saakian, head of the National Platform for Resilience and Cohesion, believes that the West must now strengthen cooperation in foreign policy and security

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

“There will be challenging times - very dynamic and chaotic - but it’s in such times that strong people are forged. Decisions will need to be made on a range of issues that were previously delayed or ignored. Europe now needs to synergize its foreign policy and security efforts. The U.S. is no longer just a stagnant leader unable to play the role of 'sheriff.' American society has shown its elites a 'red card,' signaling the need for isolationism rather than protecting others around the world. The American system has been slow to respond, and those underlying issues that weaken American leadership are systemic,” the political scientist noted.

According to him, it will now be essential to build a new structure, as the time for imitation is over. Trump will, in many ways, serve as a "test of resilience" for Europe, the Indo-Pacific region, and the American political system—and for Ukraine, as it gauges its capacity to act proactively.

“We will now be dealing with a number of problems, because under Harris we could pretend that they are not yet critical, but under Trump they will come out with double the force. I don't see any catastrophic scenarios, but in the near future there will be a total fever. I'm not saying that this whole coalition of scoundrels (the axis of evil) will raise the stakes as much as possible, try to imitate the 'Caribbean crisis 2.0,' attempt to break through the Ukrainian defense like the last time, perhaps there will be nuclear tests, additional missile launches in the Indo-Pacific region, some Chinese maneuvers near Taiwan and the Philippines - a lot will happen, including a potential Iranian attack on Israel,” commented Oleh Saakian.

  • On Tuesday, November 5, the United States of America held presidential elections. Citizens chose the country's leader for the next four years. Donald Trump became the head of the United States, defeating Kamala Harris. Espreso conducted a text broadcast.
  •  On November 6, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke positively about Donald Trump's victory in his evening address. He noted that “we have the potential for stronger cooperation.”
  • Also the next day, Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Donald Trump.
  • On November 7, the Wall Street Journal reported that advisers to the winner of the U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump, are offering him several options for ending the war in Ukraine. In particular, Ukraine's refusal to join NATO for 20 years.
