Netanyahu keeps making blunders: expert Semyvolos on Israeli intelligence monitored ICC judges
Ihor Semyvolos, Director of the Association of Middle East Studies, believes that the recognition of Palestine by some countries will have little immediate impact but will increase pressure on Israel
He said this during a broadcast on the Espreso TV channel.
"The recognition of Palestine by some countries in the short term will hardly lead to anything, but it seriously increases the pressure on Israel, on the Netanyahu government. It continues to make more and more mistakes. We already see information that the Israeli special services have been monitoring judges of the ICC (International Criminal Court) and the prosecutor. That is, many other materials will emerge. And this will significantly worsen the situation for Israel in the international arena," Semyvolos emphasized.
Semyvolos also commented on the IDF strikes on Rafah.
"There will be consequences for Israel. First, there will be a change in Washington's official position. Now Washington is demanding a detailed investigation, and it will obviously be forced to change its position towards Israel. There will also be a decision of the UN court, and Israel will be perceived more harshly by European countries," Semyvolos said.
- On May 20, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three Hamas leaders. The Israeli Foreign Ministry set up a special center to combat this decision. US President Biden called the prosecutor's move outrageous, while France supported it.
- On May 27, Israeli airstrikes on Rafah killed at least 35 Palestinians, prompting Hamas to urge Palestinians to "rise up and march."
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the May 26 IDF strike on Rafah, which killed at least 45 civilians, a "tragic mistake."
