Lithuanian government proposes ending customs cooperation with Russia, Belarus
The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance proposes to terminate the customs cooperation agreements with Russia and Belarus, which were signed almost two decades ago
LRT reported the information.
The ministry has already prepared draft government resolutions that provide for the termination of the agreements, the outlet reports.
According to representatives of the ministry, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Lithuanian customs has not cooperated or exchanged information with the customs services of Russia and Belarus.
However, people who have trade relations with these countries provide customs and courts with documents issued by the customs authorities of the Russian Federation and Belarus as proof of the legality of trade and compliance with international sanctions.
According to the outlet, the decision to terminate the agreement with Belarus is yet to be approved by the president and the Sejm.
The agreement with Belarus on cooperation in combating violations of customs legislation was signed in July 1996, and the agreement with Russia on cooperation and mutual assistance in the field of customs activities was signed in February 1995.
- In Lithuania, starting at midnight on July 18, cars with Belarusian license plates were banned from entering the country, regardless of the nationality of the owner or driver.
