Iran sends Russia ballistic missiles capable of hitting targets up to 700 km away
Iran has provided Russia with about 400 ballistic missiles capable of destroying targets at a distance of 300 to 700 km
Reuters reports this.
Three Iranian sources told the news agency that many of the missiles belong to the Fateh-110 family of short-range ballistic missiles, including the Zolfaghar. Experts say that such a mobile missile is capable of destroying a target at a distance of 300 to 700 km.
According to the article, deliveries began in early January after Iranian and Russian military and security officials signed an agreement in late 2023. The meetings took place in Tehran and Moscow.
An anonymous Iranian official told Reuters that at least four missile deliveries have taken place so far, with more to come in the next weeks.
“There will be more shipments," the second Iranian official said. "There is no reason to hide it. We are allowed to export weapons to any country that we wish to.”
According to him, some of the missiles were sent to Russia across the Caspian Sea, and the rest were flown by air.
At the same time, the US official said that Washington had evidence of active negotiations between Russia and Iran, but there are no signs that the deliveries have taken place.
- On November 21 last year, the United States warned that Russia had agreed with Iran on the supply of short-range ballistic missiles for use in the war against Ukraine.
