BRICS summit in Kazan was slap in face of West - Feygin
Russian opposition politician Mark Feygin states the West's inability to act has led to events like BRICS in Russia and the involvement of North Korean troops in the war
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
“The Russian-led BRICS summit in Kazan was preceded by several visits that may not have been significant in their content, but the form and context certainly mattered. For example, Putin's visit to Mongolia, which falls under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and has ratified the Rome Statute but has not complied with an ICC warrant. In my opinion, this was an important event. Of course, Moscow had been preparing for it, holding all sorts of consultations with Ulaanbaatar for a long time,” said Mark Feygin.
According to him, then came Putin's next visit to Turkmenistan. It is clear that neither Mongolia nor Turkmenistan had any chance of detaining him and transferring him to the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice. Yet, despite the non-ratification of the Rome Statute and non-participation in the ICC, Turkmenistan ignored all the necessary requirements of the ICC to detain and transfer Putin as a war criminal to the court in The Hague.
“And now there is a rather serious BRICS event, where, apart from the president of Brazil, who did not show up under the pretext of an injury, other countries honored Kazan with their presence. Not to say that this was all blessed by the arrival of Guterres, the UN Secretary General. I should note that he did not come to the Peace Summit in Switzerland at the end of June, Guterres was not there. Basically, we know what the current UN is, so we have no illusions about it. This is a completely corrupt, useless, universal power that for decades after World War II claimed to be a kind of planetary government, to resolve conflicts between peoples, and now has turned into an instrument of various kinds of dictatorships to demonstrate that they have overcome their isolation,” the opposition politician commented.
Feygin emphasized the very fact that heads of state and government came to such an event, and not to the capital, but to a region of the Russian Federation.
“And, of course, this is an attack on the West. An attempt to demonstrate some kind of parallelism with the First World. And Putin is coping with it somehow. Why is this happening? There are several reasons. First, the general lack of will shown by the West. I believe that the participation of the North Korean military in the war, which is already on the territory of Russia, is no less key. And this is all perceived together. The lack of a preliminary, preventive reaction from the West, which may come, but as a consequence,” the politician summarized.
