Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to present his own plan for resolving the war in Ukraine by freezing the conflict along current front lines at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. The Kremlin responded

Bloomberg reported the information.

The outlet noted that after nearly 1,000 days of Russia's war against Ukraine, allies are urging Zelenskyy to consider new ways to force Putin to the negotiating table.

Two European officials stated that more countries are calling on Zelenskyy to accept a compromise, as neither side can achieve a decisive victory.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the latest NATO member to join the discussion. According to sources familiar with his plans, he intends to propose freezing the conflict along current front lines during the G20 leaders' meeting in Rio de Janeiro on Monday.

China and Brazil, which have been advocating for an international conference involving both sides since May, will also attend the summit.

Erdogan’s proposal includes postponing discussions on Ukraine’s NATO membership for at least 10 years, viewing it as a concession to Putin. The Turkish initiative suggests creating a demilitarized zone in eastern Donbas, where Russia has controlled territories since 2014. The plan also proposes deploying international forces to maintain peace, while Ukraine would receive military supplies as compensation for the delay in its NATO membership.

“The sudden clamor for a settlement shows the renewed urgency from Ukraine’s allies who are trying to get ahead of Trump’s return and the possibility of drastic cuts in U.S. support,” the outlet explained, noting that the presence of North Korean troops siding with Russia further intensifies the desire for a swift end to the conflict.

Despite significant military personnel losses, Putin has shown little inclination toward a ceasefire. Last week, he expressed readiness for negotiations, but only under conditions that consider Russia's security interests and territorial gains. Additionally, the Kremlin may interpret increasing pressure on Ukraine as a validation of their war of attrition strategy.

Kremlin's response

Russian leader Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov has categorically rejected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's proposal to freeze the war in Ukraine, Medusa reports.

According to him, the plan was not discussed at the level of the leaders of the two countries, and the Kremlin is only familiar with it from media publications.

“In this case, the June conditions formulated by President Putin remain fully relevant. This is what needs to be done to stop the fighting,” he added.

  • Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes that the war in Ukraine could easily end if the U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration takes a hands-off approach to resolving the situation.
