West doesn't reach turning point in providing weapons to Ukraine
So far, there is no question of achieving a turning point in providing Ukraine with Western weapons and ensuring a counteroffensive
The director of the Army, Conversion and Disarmament Center Valentyn Badrak said this on Espreso.
“The West may come to a turning point (in providing weapons to Ukraine, - ed.), but it is only weighing its steps, and it is not yet discussed,” he emphasized.
Valentyn Badrak noted that there are positive developments in Ukraine regarding the acquisition of air defense systems, but so far only the UK, acting independently, plans to provide new Challenger tanks. He also reminded that Poland can hand over tanks without Germany's consent.
“But yesterday (January 19 - ed.) there was disappointment with the meeting in the Bundestag and consideration of the possibility of providing new tanks. Even with regard to the old Leopard 1, of which there are about 200 in Germany, nothing was decided,” the director of the Army, Conversion and Disarmament Center said.
He noted that Germany is appealing the US decision on Abrams, and the United States is providing an explanation for problems with equipment maintenance, fuel, while Poland will receive 116 new tanks this year, and this is a batch of 250 Abrams.
“The West has taken a certain step forward: we will be provided with light armored vehicles very significantly, with Pro anti-aircraft systems - decently. But the provision of the offensive is not yet happening,” Valentyn Badrak concluded.
