US could play it safe and remove ATACMS launch program from HIMARS - Defense Express editor-in-chief Katkov
During the transfer of HIMARS to Ukraine, the USA could isolate a certain plug-in or module from the software that is responsible for launching ATACMS missiles
Oleh Katkov, editor-in-chief of Defense Express, said this on Espreso TV.
"Any high-precision weapon of the West is just a computer with weapons. When ATACMS arrives, they will just have a flash drive that is inserted into the HIMARS computer and the relevant data is downloaded," he said.
According to the expert, most likely, during the transfer, a certain plug-in or module was isolated from the software, which is responsible for starting ATACMS itself.
"The USA could well prefer to be on the safe side, because HIMARS was transferred during the period when the strategic initiative was in the hands of the Russian Federation. It is quite logical that some software elements were removed for safety purposes. As soon as the political decision regarding the transfer of ATACMS is made, a flash drive will arrive, the military will insert it into HIMARS or M270 and everything will work," Katkov concluded.
