US Army ex-commander in Europe Hodges pinpoints number of MLRS HIMARS Ukraine needs
By the end of the year, Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to repel Russian troops to the positions they held as of February 23. This will happen if the Western partners continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons and a large amount of ammunition.
The US Army ex-commander in Europe, General Ben Hodges stated this in an interview with Voice of America.
"I'm convinced that in a few weeks we will start to feel the effects of long-range artillery and missiles. But until then, it will be hell for Ukrainian soldiers and civilians targeted by Russian artillery," Hodges said.
The general believes that some decisions in support of Ukraine were made too late. In particular, he says that so far Ukrainians have received only 10% of HIMARS jet systems from the amount needed for a powerful counterattack.
"These are very good systems, they will have a serious impact on the situation at the front. But for this impact to be noticeable, Ukraine needs about 40 HIMARS. In addition, it needs ammunition, not just the launch systems themselves, because the missiles are running out very quickly," Ben Hodges added.
