CNA reports.

It is noted that US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield will meet with officials in Brazil and focus on discussing "broad cooperation between the Western hemisphere's two most populous nations rather than dwelling on Lula's remarks."

At the same time, an unnamed official in Washington noted that Greenfield intends to "test" Brazil on the war in Ukraine.

"Our position is that a range of countries around the world, Brazil included, can play a positive role in trying to bring this conflict to an end. But we have to make sure that any peace is a just and durable one that adheres to the principles and sovereignty and territorial integrity," the official said on condition of anonymity.

  • On April 16, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva accused Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of "not taking steps for reconciliation" and said that it was necessary to create an analog of the G20 to end the war in Ukraine.

  • The Brazilian leader also emphasized that the United States should stop "encouraging war" in Ukraine and "start talking about peace." The White House responded by saying that in this case, Brazil was repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda, without looking at the facts.

  • In addition, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko called on the Brazilian president to visit Ukraine and said that Kyiv was watching with interest his efforts to find a solution to end the war.
