UN to support any IAEA Ukraine mission to Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant - Guterres
The UN Secretariat is ready to support any IAEA mission through Ukraine's territory to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres wrote about this on Twitter.
"I am, as before, deeply concerned about the situation at and around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Any further aggravation of the situation could lead to self-destruction. The UN Secretariat is ready to support any IAEA mission from Kyiv to the plant", Guterres wrote.
In addition, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said at a press conference in Geneva that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant should be immediately demilitarized. She called on the President of Russia to stop the armed attack on Ukraine, the correspondent of Suspilne reports.
"The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant must be immediately demilitarized. Both sides must always and under all circumstances respect international law, human rights, and international humanitarian law. The international community must insist on prosecution for numerous documented serious violations, some of which can be qualified as war crimes", Bachelet said.
I remain gravely concerned about the situation in and around the Nuclear Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia.
