UN Secretary General calls for pre-Easter four-day "silence regime" and opening humanitarian corridors
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for ceasefire in Ukraine from April 21 to 24
This was reported by EP with reference on statement of Secretary General.
"Today I call for 4-day humanitarian break of Holy Week, which begins on Holy Thursday and lasts until Easter, April 24, to allow opening of a number of humanitarian corridors," Guterres said.
He believes that humanitarian pause would create necessary conditions for safe passage of all civilians wishing to leave areas of current and expected hostilities, as well as deliver rescue aid to people in most affected areas, such as Mariupol, Kherson, Donetsk and Luhansk. .
Guterres said UN was ready to send humanitarian aid columns.
"Humanitarian needs are very serious. People don’t have food, water, medicine for sick or wounded or just for daily life. Today in Ukraine more than 12 million people need humanitarian aid. More than a third of them - in Mariupol, Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk." , - said UN Secretary General.
