UN reports how many Ukrainian civilians die since February 24
According to official statistics compiled by the UN, civilian casualties in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion exceed 16.7 thousand people killed and wounded
This is stated in the latest report of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Ukrinform reported.
"From February 24, 2022, when the armed attack of Russia on Ukraine began, until November 20, 2022, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded 16784 cases of death and injury of civilians in Ukraine," the document says.
This list includes 6595 killed and 10189 wounded civilians, including children - both in the areas that remain under the occupation of Russian forces and on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It is noted that most of the recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a significant impact area, including heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers, as well as missile and air strikes.
At the same time, the OHCHR notes that the number of civilian casualties in Ukraine is much higher, as "information from some places where intense fighting continues is delayed".
In addition, some information about civilian casualties needs to be confirmed. This applies, for example, to Mariupol, Izium, Lysychansk, Popasna and Severodonetsk. There were reportedly numerous cases of civilians killed or injured there.
