UN confirms 8,101 Ukrainian civilians killed and 13,479 wounded during Russia's large-scale invasion
Since the beginning of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, by February 26, 2023, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has recorded at least 21,580 civilian casualties
The data were provided in the report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) .
In particular, a total of 8,101 people were killed (3,584 men, 2,127 women, 256 boys and 201 girls, as well as 31 children and 1,902 adults whose sex is not yet known), and 13,479 were injured (3,536 men, 2,421 women, 398 boys and 293 girls, as well as 271 children and 6,560 adults whose sex is not yet known).
In particular in Donetsk and Luhansk regions OHCHR recorded: 8,916 victims (3,714 killed and 5,202 injured).
It is also noted that most of the recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a large area of impact, including shelling from heavy artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, missiles and air strikes.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights believes that the actual numbers are significantly higher, as reporting from some areas of intense fighting is delayed and many reports are still awaiting confirmation.
