Ukrainian Security Service exposes group of Russian hackers who wanted to connect to video surveillance systems in city near Russian border
Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) cyber specialists neutralized an attempt of Russian hackers to connect to video surveillance systems of a city on the border with Russia, in particular, the invaders wanted to track possible movement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment
This was reported by the Ukrainian Security Service press service on telegram.
"Through the Wi-Fi network of apartment buildings, the hackers wanted to remotely connect to the video surveillance system for the territory of residential complexes, adjacent roads, etc. In this way, they planned to have a hidden channel to collect information about the situation in the city," the SBU said in a statement.
In particular, the occupiers sought to find out the addresses of Ukrainian law enforcement officers and the possible transportation of military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"According to intelligence, a hacker group from Russia controlled by the Russian special services, which specializes in hacking into electronic systems of infrastructure facilities, was involved in the cyberattack," the SBU said.
Cyber specialists prevented an attempted digital attack by Russia on the electronic infrastructure systems of the city on the border, and law enforcement officers are now establishing the circumstances of the crime to bring the offenders to justice.
In 2022, the SBU protected Ukraine's information and digital security in the context of war: from the beginning of the year to the end of December, more than 4.5 thousand cyber attacks were neutralized
