"Ukrainian Peace Formula can return security and justice to whole world" - Ukraine at UN Security Council
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on all responsible states to support and promote the peace plan that can return security and justice to Ukraine and the whole world
Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova made the statement at the UN Security Council meeting, which considered the situation caused by Putin's war, Ukrinform reports.
"President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has initiated the Peace Formula. We believe that its 10 points can bring back security and justice not only to Ukraine, but to the entire world," Dzhaparova stressed.
She reminded that the plan, based on the goals and principles of the UN Charter, is aimed at ensuring security in all its dimensions - food, radiation, nuclear, power safety, counteracting ecocide and preventing the recurrence of aggression in the future.
"We invite all responsible nations to join and to contribute to peace and the rule of law by facilitating and promoting the implementation of the Peace Formula Plan," the First Deputy Foreign Minister said.
At the same time, she expressed regret that "the messenger of evil is still in the chair of a permanent member of the UN Security Council", which was occupied by the Soviet Union. She reiterated the position of Ukraine: the legal grounds for Russia's presence in the Security Council are "more than questionable, if not completely absent.”
Dzhaparova stressed the need to further increase pressure on Russia in order to destroy its military machine. Russia has already felt the impact of sanctions: its invading army is running out of modern weapons and ammunition, she noted.
"Although we have not yet won, Russia has already lost," the first deputy minister noted. For the final defeat of Russia and the victory of democracy, she added, it is necessary to strengthen sanctions in sectors that are of particular economic importance for Russia. In particular, it concerns a complete oil and gas embargo and ban of Russian banks from the global financial system.
It is also impossible to allow those who help Russia to commit war crimes to escape responsibility, said Dzhaparova, specifying that this applies to Belarus and Iran.
The representative of Ukraine once again called on the UN Secretariat to send experts to Ukraine to investigate the supply of unmanned aerial vehicles from Iran to Russia.
"The delay undermines confidence in the Security Council as such, as well as in its ability to ensure the implementation of its decisions," she explained.
Dzhaparova also stressed the need to establish a special tribunal to bring Russian officials to justice for the crime of aggression. She specified that over 64,000 war crimes committed by the Russian Federation have been registered in almost 11 months.
In addition, the first deputy minister stated Ukraine's urgent need for weapons, which "will bring us closer to victory and restoration of peace", as well as financial and humanitarian assistance.
According to the latest estimates, the total amount of damage caused to civilian and critical infrastructure of Ukraine is more than USD 127 billion, Dzhaparova added.
- Earlier, Dzhaparova announced that Ukraine was preparing to submit to the UN General Assembly a resolution on a special tribunal on Russian aggression.
