Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) could become more popular in eastern Ukraine, which would be dangerous
Since the authorities do not want to pass laws stating that the activities of the Russian church pose a threat to national security, there is a risk of confrontation
People's Deputy Mykola Knyazhytskyi stated this on Espreso.
According to People's Deputy Mykola Knyazhytskyi, the lack of legislation recognizing the activities of the Russian church as a threat to national security could lead to a dangerous situation in Ukraine. He explained that while the authorities do not want to pass such laws, there is a risk of confrontation, particularly in the central and western regions, where there have been announcements of bans on the activities of the UOC (MP).
Knyazhytskyi warned that this could lead to a civil conflict, as the UOC (MP) may become more popular in the east, where there have been no such bans. He noted that passing laws to address the issue would clarify the state's position and remove any claims against Ukraine while highlighting the dangers of the Russian church's activities. However, he expressed doubts that the government's proposed law could be implemented since its prohibition of the church would take at least five years and require navigating various legal hurdles, including the courts. Furthermore, Knyazhytskyi stated that pro-Russian forces still have a strong influence on the courts, making it challenging to enforce the government law.
