Ukrainian defenders shoot down Russian reconnaissance drone Kartograph over Mykolaiv region
Around nine o'clock in the morning on September 2, in the sky over the Mykolaiv region, a Ukrainian air defense unit successfully targeted the Russian Army's Kartograph drone
This was reported by the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"On September 2, at around 09:00 a.m. in the sky over the Mykolaiv Oblast, an anti-aircraft missile unit of the Air Force eliminated the Russian Kartograf drone, which is part of the Ptero multi-purpose drone complex family," the message states.
The military adds that the Rashists try to carry out aerial reconnaissance of the south of the country almost every day, actively using operational-tactical drones of various modifications for this purpose. So, the liquidated drone had a camera with 12 lenses designed to create terrain plans.
According to the "Military" portal, such a classified Russian drone is unofficially called a "cartographer". It is sometimes confused with another Russian drone, the Orlan-10. Outwardly, UAVs are really similar, but they also have a number of differences. "Kartograph", in particular, has a camera with 12 lenses and an improved system of protection against interference with navigation channels. Some of its components, in particular the optical-electronic system, are manufactured by a Russian company that is under US sanctions and works together with the Orlan UAV manufacturing plant. This drone model is not used by the Ministry of Defense of Russia, but probably by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
