Ukrainian counter-offensive will last another 30-45 days before bad weather sets in - US Army General
Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley believes that there are just over 30 days of fighting left in Ukraine before bad weather complicates the active phase of the Ukrainian Armed Forces counter-offensive
He shared his opinions in an interview with the BBC.
According to Milley, cold weather will make it much harder for the Ukrainian Defence Forces to manoeuvre. The general acknowledged that the Ukrainian offensive is progressing slower than expected.
"There's still heavy fighting going on. The Ukrainians are still plugging away with steady progress," he said.
General Milley said it was too early to say whether the counter-offensive had failed, but added that Ukraine was "progressing at a very steady pace through the Russian front lines."
"There's still a reasonable amount of time, probably about 30 to 45 days' worth of fighting weather left, so the Ukrainians aren't done.
There's battles not done... they haven't finished the fighting part of what they're trying to accomplish. I said at the very beginning of this [war] that this was going to be long, slow, hard, and high-casualty-producing, and that's exactly what it is," the US military commander said.
- At the same time, the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, said that the Ukrainian military would continue counter-offensive actions in cold and wet weather, even if it becomes more difficult to fight.
