Ukrainian army will gradually switch to NATO weapons - Pentagon
The US expects that Ukraine will gradually switch to using North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) weapons systems over the next few years.
This was stated by US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Kahl during a briefing.
The Armed Forces will need at least three years to fully integrate into the NATO weapons system.
"It is possible that years from now they may still use the systems and ammunition that they produce themselves. However, I will say that, according to my expectations, in the terms that we are talking about here, Ukraine will gradually switch to arms of the Alliance standards," he remarked.
According to Kahl, over 50 countries have provided military aid to Ukraine in recent months.
"Ideally, the future of the Ukrainian army will not be based on dozens of different systems, but on a much smaller number of systems that are easier to maintain and service," added the deputy head of the US Department of Defense.
