Ukrainian Armed Forces “celebrate” New Year in Horlivka direction under artillery fire

Ukrainian Armed Forces fighter Yevhen Iyevlyev, call sign Sheikh, shared the information on Espreso TV.

"Even at midnight, Russians did not allow us to listen to the president’s address at the positions or enjoy a quiet tea clink with iron mugs. The reason was that intelligence reported the enemy was preparing for a nighttime assault. Fortunately, everything went well, and it served as a signal for us to be on maximum combat alert. The enemy fired from self-propelled artillery systems and mortars starting around midnight, paused around 3 am, and resumed cannonade in the morning. We are causing damage to the enemy, and the enemy is not getting a good night's sleep either," Iyevlyev emphasized.

• According to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), on December 31, Ukrainian forces advanced southeast of Kupyansk and continued positional fighting with Russian troops along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line.
• The ISW named the reasons for the increase in Russian losses in the war against Ukraine, one of which is that the Russian military command decided to conduct simultaneous offensive operations along the entire front line, often in preference to minor gains.
