Ukraine's education system should respond to children’s psychological needs – former minister
Ukrainian children have grown up because of the war, and they realize that they need to be able to help themselves, and the education system should respond to this
Lilia Hrynevych, First Vice-Rector of Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University and former Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science, said this on Espreso TV.
"The educational process in schools will have other features and characteristics. Recent studies show that 75% of Ukrainian schoolchildren show cognitive signs of psycho-emotional stress. This means that every teacher should have the ability and knowledge to recognize these signs and how to help a child. Or to identify which children need to work with a psychologist," she said.
Hrynevych told what teenagers say when asked what they would like to learn at school.
"85% said they were interested in various methods of self-support. They want to study psychology and have social and emotional skills, and how to act under stress. Our children have grown up because of the war, and they realize that they need to be able to help themselves, and the education system must respond to this," the former minister summarized.
