Ukraine needs 60 years to clear entire territory of explosives – demining expert
Iryna Kustovska, manager of the Association of Deminers of Ukraine NGO believes that it will take more than 60 years to completely clear the territory of Ukraine of explosive ordnance
She expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"All the shells on our territory that remain from the invasion of the Russian occupiers are dangerous. The same applies to ammunition left over from World War II. There was no humanitarian demining as such back then. That is why we still find such shells," explained Kustovska.
The manager of the Ukrainian Deminers Association believes that it will take at least 60 years to fully demine the territory of Ukraine.
"Now humanitarian demining operators are making considerable efforts to clear our territory of shells. This process is very complicated and difficult. However, if we do not stop, in 60 years we have a chance to completely clear our territory of explosive objects. This applies to the shells of the Second World War and the Russian-Ukrainian war," she added.
