"The parties discussed expected results of the next Ukraine-EU summit to be held on February 3 in Kyiv and agreed to intensify preparatory work," the statement said.
According to the Association Agreement, the Ukraine-EU summit is an annual event. The last, 23rd summit took place in October 2021 in Kyiv.
It was planned that the 2022 summit would take place in Brussels in December. There were preliminary announcements from the Ukrainian side. However, it was eventually decided to postpone the summit to early 2023.
Earlier, Ursula von der Leyen reported this on her Twitter.
During a phone call, von der Leyen congratulated Ukrainians on the New Year and promised to continue practical assistance, recalling about generators, equipment for temporary shelters, school buses, etc. already transferred by the European Union.
According to von der Leyen, the EU will soon start disbursing funds from the agreed macro-financial assistance package for Ukraine worth EUR 18 billion in monthly tranches.
"The EU will be with you as long as necessary. We support your heroic struggle - the struggle for freedom and against barbaric aggression," Ursula von der Leyen noted.
She added that she hopes to "soon meet" with Zelenskyy in Ukraine.
