Turkey launches military operation in Syria: 1st victims are reported

"The heroic Turkish army will soon conduct an operation against the Kurdistan Workers Party. No one should be afraid, everyone stay at home, be attentive and careful", people heard from mosques in areas bordering Syria.

Meanwhile, the Reuters agency, with reference to the Syrian state media, reported that Turkish aircraft struck Syrian military positions in the Aleppo area. As a result of the attack, three Syrian soldiers were killed and six more were wounded.

According to the Syrian state television agency, Turkish warplanes fired at Syrian checkpoints from 2:37 to 3:00 p.m. local time.

The Syrian Armed Forces noted in their report that they retaliated against some Turkish military facilities and caused losses in equipment and personnel. The military did not provide additional details.

Photos and videos of the movement of columns of Turkish military equipment also appeared on social networks. The publications claim that the Turks have entered the Syrian city of Afrin.

The New Arab publication writes about the first victims. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Turkish planes had struck a border post, killing 11 people.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, which are controlled by the Kurds, said that the strike was aimed at the positions of President Bashar al-Assad's forces.

"The Turkish military aircraft launched 12 airstrikes against the positions of the Syrian army deployed on the border strip west of Kobani", the command reported.
