Tor is crucial for Russian forces countering Ukrainian UAVs – UK intelligence
The Tor short-range surface-to-air missile system, used to protect the front lines and shoot down Ukrainian drones, plays an important role in Russia's war on Ukraine
This was stated in a report from the Ministry of Defenсe of Great Britain.
The report highlights that a key aspect of the war for both Ukraine and Russia is the destruction of ground-based air defense systems.
The Tor air defense system is crucial for Russia, differing from the Pantsir system, which mainly protects command posts, long-range air defense systems, and Russian air bases.
British intelligence notes that the Russians are presently employing Tor, specifically to counter Ukrainian drones.
However, the air defense system has its drawbacks, notably the endurance of the crew. The British Ministry of Defense emphasizes that with only three people per system, maintaining a high level of combat readiness for an extended period is likely a severe test of endurance.
- As of December 2, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that the Russian army has lost 602 anti-aircraft defenses in the war with Ukraine.
