There will be no peace without bringing Putin to justice – European Parliament’s president
Russia’s military and political leadership, including Vladimir Putin, must be held accountable for the crimes committed in the war against Ukraine – without it, there will be no peace
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola made the statement, Ukrinform reports.
In response to a journalist's question during a press conference on bringing Russia to justice, Metsola said, "What I have heard from Prosecutor General Kostin is that there has already been great progress. We have seen extremely good proposals. We have to make sure that we have the mechanisms, first of all, to collect evidence, and later to prosecute them."
The President of the European Parliament also emphasized that a special tribunal should be established to try those responsible for the crime of aggression.
"It is no longer a question of how to do it, but a question of when. And even now, when we see cases being investigated in Ukraine, information is being collected by various member states, the United States, the United Kingdom, it is about bringing people to justice, including the President of the Russian Federation Putin, because without this peace will not come," she summarized and added, "Whoever is responsible for these crimes must be brought to justice."
