Elections cannot be held in Ukraine today
The New York Times has published an article about the global elections and disinformation. In the context of elections, the publication mentioned Ukraine
This year, elections are planned in 81 countries (Russia, where the reappointment of a war criminal is planned, is not included) and will cover half the world's population. Formally, Ukraine is also due to hold presidential elections, while parliamentary elections were supposed to be held last year.
There can be no elections in Ukraine under the current circumstances. This is my consistent position. Holding them would undermine the legitimacy of the government.
It is unrealistic to ensure democracy, free expression of will, competition, freedom of speech and the right to elect and be elected during this phase of the war.
My answer to the question of the legitimacy of the President of Ukraine and the current parliament is unequivocally yes. These are the basic provisions of the Constitution.
Will our enemies undermine this legitimacy? They will throw all their capabilities at it, especially in international affairs, to cause maximum damage to support for Ukraine.
Therefore, several legal and political steps should already be taken: to adopt a resolution of the parliament confirming the principle of continuity of power, the legitimacy of the president and parliament, and the cancellation of presidential elections in 2024. Amend the Electoral Code regarding presidential elections, apply to the Constitutional Court for clarification on the legitimacy of the President of Ukraine, and instruct foreign institutions to explain to the world that all our authorities are legal and legitimate.
And we need to do this now.
