The Washington Post: Republicans oppose Democrats’ plan to fund Ukraine with seized Russian assets
In the US, the Democrats want to give Ukraine millions of the Russian Federation's seized assets, but a group of House and Senate Republicans have opposed it
This was reported by The Washington Post.
“It is unconscionable Senate Republicans are obstructing an important provision that would allow the DOJ to transfer forfeited Russian assets to assist Ukraine and its effort against Russia’s brutal war. This provision passed as part of the House NDAA and should not be attacked by the right or stripped from the final bill,” a Democratic representative involved in the process said.
Democrats want the National Defense Authorization Act to allow the Justice Department to transfer millions of dollars in yachts and other assets from Russian oligarchs.
The publication's sources emphasize that Republicans opposed a provision in the conference report of the National Defense Act (NDAA), which would allow the United States to transfer the proceeds of confiscated Russian property to Ukraine.
Democrats say stripping the provision from the nearly USD 840 billion package undercuts the Biden administration’s ability to transfer assistance to Ukraine’s economy. Republicans say the provision has not been fully vetted by the relevant committees.

On October 19, the leader of the Republican Party of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, said that the Republicans are ready to refuse US aid to Ukraine next year if they win the midterm elections in the States. The Republican faction questions whether the US should interfere in foreign policy.
