Special day for Nancy Pelosi
The midterm elections to the US Congress could be a special day for one of the most authoritative American politicians in recent decades. Most observers are confident that Republicans will be able to regain control of the House of Representatives and begin battle preparations for the White House
Nancy Pelosi, who became the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives, will have to decide whether she will remain at the head of the Democrats in the Lower House of Congress (possibly again as a minority leader) or leave the political scene.
Pelosi, who the Washington Post publication calls the most vital American speaker in the last 100 years, recently made three historic visits. These were a trip to Kyiv at the height of the war, a solidarity visit to Taiwan, and a visit to Yerevan. And each time Pelosi spoke about supporting democracies in the face of the threat of dictatorship. This definition from an article in the Washington Post can become an explanation of the difficult period of many years of confrontation between democracies and dictatorships, of wars, crises and epidemics humanity must go through.
But observers in the USA saw these trips to Pelosi as a farewell to big politics. Now they're not sure. After attacking Nancy Pelosi's husband, she may not want to show that the threats of a rabid fanatic force her to give up the fight. But on the other hand, wouldn't the 82-year-old "icon" of American liberalism want to spend more time with her husband during his "long recovery"?
We will find out the answers to these questions very soon. One thing is clear. A figure of Pelosi's scale and Unbreakable conviction of values will not appear in American politics soon.
