Sexual violence committed by Russians in Ukraine can never be forgiven, justified or amnestied - UN Security Council
UN Security Council rules condemn all forms of sexual violence, that can never be forgiven, justified or amnestied.
This was stated by the Special Representative on Conflict Sexual Violence Pramila Patten at a meeting of the Security Council on the situation in Ukraine.
She stressed that the number of reports of sexual violence is constantly growing.
"Since June, the UN High Commissioner's Human Rights Monitoring Group has received reports of 124 cases of conflict-related sexual violence against women, girls, men and boys," she said, noting that most of the reports (56) refer to women.
At the same time, Patten added, the available data is just the tip of the iceberg and do not show the full scale of sexual violence caused by Russia's war against Ukraine.
"I look forward to further consultations with the Russian mission to the UN on possible forms of cooperation in this area, including facilitating access to areas not under the control of the Ukrainian government," she said.
