"Russia’s attacks against civilian infrastructure are acts of pure terror. And we have to call it as such" - Ursula von der Leyen
At a meeting of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen said that Russia's targeted attacks on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine are acts of terror, and that is what they should be called
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, claimed.
"Yesterday, we again saw Russia's targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure. This marks a new chapter in an already very brutal war. The international order is very clear. These are war crimes. Targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure with a clear aim to cut off men, women, children of water, electricity and heating with winter coming - these are acts of pure terror. And we have to call it as such,” von der Leyen said in the European Parliament.
Also, the President of the European Commission at the plenary session of the European Parliament regarding the preparation of the Council meeting emphasized the continuation of support for Ukraine as long as necessary.
“And we will protect Europeans from the other war that Putin is waging - his war on our energy. I know that Europeans are concerned; concerned about inflation; concerned about their energy bills; concerned about the winter. The best response to Putin's gas blackmail is European solidarity and European unity,” the president said.
Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU should buy gas together and use it together.
“These three measures – pooling, saving, sharing – will have a positive impact on prices. But, of course, more needs to be done to overcome price spikes and Russian manipulation of the energy market,” Ursula added.
