Over 300 cases of sexual violence by Russian troops recorded in Ukraine
Law enforcement officials have documented over 300 cases of sexual violence committed by the Russian military against women, men, and minors in Ukraine
Deputy Prosecutor General Victoria Litvinova stated this at a press conference, Ukrinform reports on June 19.
"The Office of the Prosecutor General has documented over three hundred cases of war-related sexual violence. However, the actual number of victims is likely much higher, as instances of sexual violence by the Russian military occur throughout the occupied territories, affecting women, men, and even children. Both illegally detained civilians and prisoners of war have been victims of these crimes," she stated.
Litvinova highlighted that Ukrainian law enforcement has identified 49 Russian servicemen suspected of committing sexual violence, with 29 indictments already forwarded to court and 5 verdicts handed down by judges.
"Sexual violence is used as a tool of intimidation and humiliation, aiming to destroy the Ukrainian people as a nation," emphasized the Deputy Prosecutor General.
She further noted that Ukrainian authorities handle investigations of sexual violence with a specialized approach to minimize harm to victims, involving psychologists in the process.
