Russia violates all principles of the Non-Proliferation Treaty - UN debate
Russia, a nuclear state, is in gross violation of all three main principles set out in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Mykola Tochytskyi at a conference on the NPT in New York.
Russia stopped the process of nuclear disarmament, rejected the principle of nuclear non-proliferation (deployment of nuclear weapons in occupied Crimea) and exclusively peaceful use of atomic energy (capture of Ukraine's nuclear facilities), the Ukrainian diplomat said.
Tochytskyi pointed to the first fact in history of the transformation of civilian nuclear facilities into military targets and a bridgehead for the Russian army.
"For the first time in history, civilian nuclear facilities were turned into military facilities and bridgeheads for the Russian army, contrary to the provisions of the NPT on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. You will have the opportunity to see and hear the truth about the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and Russian crimes in Chernobyl on the sidelines of this conference", Tochytskyi said.
"The world is witnessing how nuclear terrorism, sponsored by a state possessing nuclear weapons, occurs in reality", he concluded.
