Russia uses American-made components for production of Kh-101 missiles, which it buys on civilian market - military expert Katkov
Oleh Katkov, Defense Express Editor-in-Chief, believes that it is essential to investigate the chain of obtaining these missile components by Russia to complicate further production of the Kh-101
Oleh Katkov gave a comment to Espreso TV about the American-made components found in the downed Russian Kh-101 missile.
“We are talking about a voltage converter, that is, a modular solution from an American company that actively supplies its components to many, for example, this company is one of the manufacturers of components under direct contracts for the Pentagon. But it also produces components for the civilian market. That is, it is impossible to say that this component found in the Kh-101 missile is under sanctions. However, it can be said that the Russian Federation uses civilian components in its development, accordingly, it is possible to investigate exactly how they were purchased and got to the Russian factory for the production of Kh-101 missiles,” the military expert noted.
Oleh Katkov emphasized that it is extremely important to investigate the chain of obtaining these components for missiles, because then it is possible to stop the supply of such components to the Russian Federation and thereby complicate the production of the Kh-101.
“So, when we say that the imposed sanctions do not allow the Russian Federation to produce new modern weapons, it does not work as we thought. And a large number of components of foreign origin are used by the defense and industrial complex of the Russian Federation from the civilian market. That is, the Russians use the components that they can buy, because they began to stop supplying them with components for military equipment after the annexation of Crimea, because since 2014 they were already under sanctions. But we have to admit that today in the world the sanctions regime is, in my opinion, not effective enough,” Katkov stressed.
