New U.S. aid package to Ukraine: What F-16 missiles likely included
Serhiy Zgurets, a military expert and CEO of the Defense Express media and consulting company, provided insights into the missiles for F-16 fighters that could be included in the latest U.S. aid package to Ukraine
He discussed this on Espreso TV.
"The package is interesting — standard ammunition for artillery, air defense systems, and a mention of air-to-surface missiles for F-16s. However, there are two key points: the AGM-154 and AGM-158 missiles. The AGM-158 is a cruise missile with a range of up to 300 kilometers, something we've been eagerly awaiting. It's the top-tier weapon we need for our F-16s. But the AGM-154, despite its 'AGM' designation, isn’t a missile — it's a glide bomb. Its range is about 130 kilometers, but only if dropped from an altitude of 12,000 meters," he explained.
Zgurets highlighted that if the aid package primarily contains glide bombs, this "limits the effectiveness of these weapons."
"In short, we don't yet know exactly what's in this package. If it’s not cruise missiles but these glide bombs, it does limit the potential. We wouldn't launch them from 12 kilometers high — it’s too risky. Dropping from lower altitudes reduces the bomb's range to 30 kilometers. So, let’s see what comes through," Zgurets added.
