US pressures Zelenskyy to lower mobilization age, adviser says
The Presidential Office said that American politicians from both parties are pressuring President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to mobilize Ukrainian men under the age of 25
This was announced by the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, Serhiy Leshchenko.
‘If this information has surfaced, I can confirm that American politicians from both parties are putting pressure on President Zelenskyy to explain why there is no mobilization of those aged 18 to 25 in Ukraine. The argument of our partners is that when the US was at war in Vietnam, people were drafted there from the age of 19,’ Leshchenko writes.
According to him, the Americans are hinting that Western weapons alone are not enough, and that call-up from the age of 18 should be introduced.
At the same time, Leshchenko writes, Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly continues to persuade politicians from both parties to provide weapons without changing the draft age.
- On Wednesday, October 9, the Ukrainian parliament adopted draft law No. 11379d, which exempts men liable for military service under the age of 25 from mobilization.
