Ukraine’s intelligence launches cyberattack against Russian Gazprombank
Cyber specialists from Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate conducted a large-scale attack on the system of Gazprombank, one of Russia's three largest banks, which is under sanctions
RBK-Ukraine, NV, and 24Channel reported the information, citing their own sources in the security service.
As a result of the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, Gazprombank's clients lost access to online banking and the mobile user portal. Hundreds of thousands of Russians were unable to make transfers or online payments due to the malfunctioning apps.
The attack also disrupted the operation of Gazprombank terminals across Russia. Specifically, payment terminals for public transport in Tomsk and Voronezh ceased functioning. Due to the paralysis of the bank's terminals, the Samara Philharmonic was forced to sell tickets only for cash at the box office.
Russian media confirmed the DDoS attack on Gazprombank's website, which was completely inaccessible in France and Germany.
- On June 20, Ukrainian cyber specialists launched a massive DDoS attack on Russia's banking system, targeting the operator of the Mir payment cards.
