Two Indians recruited by Russia killed in war in Ukraine
Two Indian soldiers recruited by Russia died in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Indian authorities urge the Kremlin to repatriate them
India's Foreign Ministry press service reported the information.
“We regret to state that two Indian nationals who had been recruited by the Russian Army have recently been killed in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” India's Foreign Ministry press service reports.
India called on Russia to return the bodies of the two victims and put pressure on the Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defense.
“The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow have strongly taken up the matter with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and with Russian authorities in Moscow respectively, for early release and return of all Indian nationals who are with the Russian Army,” the Indian Foreign Ministry added.
In addition, India demands that Russia stop any further recruitment of its citizens by the Russian army. It emphasizes that “such activities would not be in consonance with our partnership.”
- Back in late February, the Indian Foreign Ministry asked Russia for the early release of some citizens who had signed contracts with the Russian army.
