Trump's 100-day war settlement proposal looks like gift to Putin – military observer
Military observer Vasyl Pehnyo believes that Donald Trump's idea of ending the war against Ukraine within 100 days looks like a grace period that would allow Putin to achieve his goals in Kursk and fully occupy Donetsk
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Regarding Donald Trump's idea to end the war in 100 days, in my opinion, it seems like a gift for Putin. It's as if he's being given 100 days to push Ukrainians out of the Kursk region and fully occupy Donetsk. On the other hand, considering Trump's statements, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't even aware of the Kursk region or the presence of our (Ukrainian - ed.) troops there. However, when the 100-day plan was first proposed by Keith Kellogg, it truly sounded like a grace period for Putin. It’s as if they are giving him time to achieve his objectives, and then, if he continues to resist, the U.S. will begin taking serious actions against Russia," said Pehnyo.
The observer emphasized that the real impact on Russia's economy, and consequently its ability to sustain the war, will come from a drop in global energy prices.
"For Russia, customs burdens on Russian imports, as mentioned by Donald Trump, are not as threatening as energy resources. If the Trump administration truly implements the policy he promised, it will indeed affect Russia. A decrease in energy prices for the U.S. will directly impact Russia’s economy. Because if energy resources become cheaper in the U.S., the same process will occur globally," he noted.
- On January 22, the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. President Donald Trump instructed the U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, to end the war in 100 days.
