Russian troops execute 6 Ukrainian prisoners of war in Donetsk region
Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets commented on a video circulating online showing the cynical shooting of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military
Lubinets reported the information on Telegram.
According to him, the video shows Russian soldiers recording their own crime — the execution of six Ukrainian servicemen who had been captured, shot in the back. The footage ends when the Ukrainian seventh soldier falls to the ground, with his fate unknown. Each of the captured servicemen is shot in front of their fellow soldiers. Meanwhile, Russian soldiers order them to "lie down and shut up," while the "cameraman" of the crime says, "One is mine," and later is seen firing a series of bullets into the back of one of the POWs.
“The Russian army has never been known for its decent treatment of prisoners of war, and once again it demonstrates its fecklessness and criminality,” he wrote.
“I am once again sending information about this crime to the UN and the ICRC. This fact must be documented!” the Ombudsman noted.
Lubinets stated that the lack of accountability has turned the crime into a systemic issue. He emphasized that this cannot be ignored and that Ukraine demands justice and accountability for those responsible for committing war crimes and violating all norms.
