Trump's attempt to appeal to Putin's common sense has no chance of success
Trump's post appealing to Putin to end the war immediately is effectively an ultimatum
It’s essentially a demand framed as "either we act rationally and strike a deal now, or face confrontation," effectively leaving the U.S. administration with no other option.
Such an approach might make sense if the Kremlin were run by rational, clear-headed individuals capable of distinguishing between what benefits them and what leads to their downfall. However, everything Putin has done in recent years consistently proves that there is nothing rational there.
There is no logic in sending soldiers to die in Ukraine – it harms Russia. There is no logic in bombing Ukrainian cities daily – it harms Russia. There is no logic in targeting a Ukrainian children's hospital with missiles – it harms Russia. In the eyes of the entire civilized world, Russia has become a nation of deranged thugs, trying to compensate for its loss of global standing with the lives of hundreds of thousands.
It is clear that this attempt to appeal to Putin's common sense has no chance of success. There is no common sense there, making the appeal misdirected. These are the realities, and unfortunately, the newly elected president's administration will face this truth daily. For now, there is no other way to stop this war than to ensure Ukraine's military victory.
