Russian troops set fire to 100 of their soldiers near Chasiv Yar — Luhansk troop grouping
Russian forces may have deliberately set fire to a collector containing an estimated 100 of their deceased soldiers near Chasiv Yar to avoid retrieving the bodies and conceal the extent of their losses
Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Zaporozhets, spokesman for the Luhansk troop grouping, shared the information in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.
According to him, Ukrainian Defense Forces observed Russian activity near the Siverskyi Donets Canal pipes between January 4th and 8th. Reports indicate that over 100 Russian troops were positioned within the collector, likely preparing for offensive operations towards Chasiv Yar.
On January 9th, the Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted an airstrike on the location where the Russian troops were concentrated.
"The strike resulted in significant Russian casualties, potentially reaching 100 personnel. For two days following the strike, no activity was observed near the pipes or the collector. On January 21st, the Russians initiated a fire within the collector, presumably to conceal the extent of their losses and avoid the need to recover the deceased. The fire and smoke persisted for approximately five hours," stated the spokesman.
