Europe will fund U.S. weapons for Ukraine, says NATO chief Rutte
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed the need for increased defense spending and support for Ukraine, with Europe expected to finance U.S. weapons
Reuters reported the information.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, NATO's chief emphasized the need for increased defense investment, boosted industrial production, and greater financial support for Ukraine.
"On Ukraine, we need U.S. also to stay involved. If this new Trump administration is willing to keep on supplying Ukraine from its defense industrial base, the bill will be paid by the Europeans, I'm absolutely convinced of this, we have to be willing to do that," Rutte said.
The NATO Secretary General's comments followed U.S. President Donald Trump's recent statement urging the European Union to increase support for Ukraine.
In Davos, Rutte emphasized the importance of preventing a Russian victory, warning it could lead to Vladimir Putin “high-fiving” the leaders of North Korea and China.
"We really have to step up and not scale back our support for Ukraine. The frontline is moving in the wrong direction," the NATO chief said.
